Design
The Sony Xperia M looks and feels really premium. This 4 inch handset is really comfortable to hold. It also has a classy Soft Back.
There is no Capacitive touch buttons on the front, instead those buttons are on the screen itself. The sensors, VGA camera on the top and volume rockers, power button and cammera shutter key on the right side. The micro USB port is on the left side and 3.5mm jack is placed on the top side. The rear side sports a SONY logo with XPERIA branding and also a “N” mark indicating NFC, internal speakers and 5MP camera with HDR mode and LED flash.
The handset is just 9.3mm thick. The built quality is really good and this phone really looks like a premium phone and not a budget phone at all.
Display, OS and Storage
The 4 inch TFT screen is with 16 millions colours and 854×480 pixels resolution (245 ppi). The touch is pretty smooth and responsive. Viewing angles are decent. Auto brightness also works fine, But You can set brightness to max as this phone looks at it’s best when the brightness is set to maximum, but note you will be compromising on the battery life while doing so. it’s completely upto you.
The handset runs on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OS. RAM is 1GB of which 410 MB is Generally free. Of the 4GB internal storage only 2.05 Gb is user accessible, of which free memory is around 1.5 GB out of the Box and sadly you cannot install apps on SD card on this handset. Well this is a big Drawback of this phone as you can have some trouble installing some high end games.
Performance and Benchmark Scores
The Sony Xperia M is powered by Modern Snapdragon S4 Plus chipset (1GHz dual-core Krait processor and Adreno 305 GPU). The performance of this handset from Sony is Pretty impressive.
Benchmark scores
- Quadrant Benchmark: 4348.
- Antutu Benchmark: 11212.
- Nenamark2: 63.3 fps.
- Multi Touch: 5 point.
Camera Performance
The 5MP auto focus camera comes with HDR mode and Image stabiliser. The image quality is not the best out there compared to some other 5 MP camera Phones, but it is decent. The camera can also record HD Videos Upto 720p resolution. More options are also there in camera. In addition there is a front facing VGA Camera which is decent for skype calling.
Gaming and Entertainment
The handset can play videos upto 720p. Also You can increase the number of video formats supported by this device easily by installing MX Player from the Google Play Store.
I installed the Real Racing 3 and dead trigger on the Xolo Q700 and both Runs really well and without any lag. However as mentioned earlier biggest drawback is that apps cannot be moved to SD card, So disappointment for all gamers out there.
Sound Quality
The Sony Xperia M’s audio Quality is Mind Blowing, it is Clear and Loud. Sony has provided two options called Clear Phase and xLOUD under Sound Setting menu, that can be used to automatically adjust the sound quality of the internal speaker and enhance the loudness of the internal speaker respectively. Listening to songs with help of Stereo Headphones was not a pleasant experience, but can say it was decent . Equaliser option is also there.
Sensors
E-Compass, Proximity sensor, Light sensor are present in this phone and all works pretty Good.
Also 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,GPS and NFC works perfectly fine.
Battery Life
The 1750 mAh Li-ion battery should be enough to keep you going for a full day as The estimated Talktime is Upto 10 Hours 18 min and standby time is upto 552 Hours. But In our tests, during heavy usage, the phone’s battery lasted only for just 6 hours. (Continous heavy multitasking).
TechImperia Verdict
We can Certainly Say The looks of this Budget handset is not budgeted at all, as it does look like a premium smartphone and comes at an attractive price of INR13,500. Certainly a best Buy if you are looking for a mobile under Rs. 15,000. Also it is a great option for Users who are not comfortable with a big 5 inch phone. Touch response of this phone is Pretty Impressive. The Only Drawback is the inability to move apps 2 SD card. We Recommend this handset over Galaxy Core anyday.
